Making the most of Autistic Hyperfocus

Wipe your ass with your therapy homework. The so called “experts” want to “help you” to act in a way thats convenient for others, not drive you to succeed.

A person who works forty hours a week and thinks about nothing. Survival mode.

They call your intensity a disorder because they are unable to interface with it. Fuck em. Your mind is a laser while most people carry flickering flashlights. You possess a weapon. Your ability to deep focus is the gun in your holster navigating the Vibe Economy inhabited by the mediocre masses of fried attention spans and shoddy work.

You are a specialist in a world of generalists. This is your guide to total mental dominance.

THE PATRONIZING POMODORO

The pathetic Pomodoro timer is a death sentence for your genius. Neurotypical experts love 25 minute blocks because their minds are shallow pools.

These people need breaks because their work is boring and their focus is weak. Our brains work on a different scale. We need hours to sink into the flow.

Once we are there, we are unstoppable. Interrupting an autistic person in hyperfocus is a violent act. This stops the momentum of a mental locomotive.

We do not have a deficit of attention. We have an overwhelming pool of attention for important and interesting things.

I’ll get so into something I’ll forget to eat and sleep.

We direct this energy into a narrow tunnel anllowing for extreme depth. Neurotypicals see the surface. We see the atoms.

We see the logic behind the curtain. Disassembling and reassembling concepts from their component parts. We call this Bottoms-Up Thinking.

While the world tries to fix your attention span, you are building systems they cannot even comprehend.

Monotropism research shows our attention systems prioritize single interests over multi tasking. This specialization leads to mastery. While others flap around between emails and meetings, we build worlds.

I really need to read Mastery by Robert Greene. I managed to read every other book he put out when Mastery was probably the most relevant one.

Dr. Dinah Murray described this as a narrow interest channel. Our energy stays inside the channel. Our energy creates heat. Our energy creates fire. We are not distracted. We are deeply committed.

Stop feeling guilty for ignoring your phone. Stop feeling bad for missing lunch. You are doing the mental work others dream about.

You are becoming the master of your craft. When you lock in, you are invincible. Built for the deep water.

God Bless your obsession.

Choose the tunnel over the shallows.

Fuck it we ball.

THE SOCIAL BATTERY SCAM

Eye contact is a scam invented by people who have nothing interesting to say.

People expect us to look at their faces while you solve complex problems. This is a waste of processing power.

Your brain is busy rendering a three dimensional model of a system. You do not have spare energy for the useless dance of social cues.

We spend energy on things which have value. Small talk is a tax on the soul.

We are tax evaders.

This refusal makes people uncomfortable. These people call you cold. These people call you weird. In reality, you are preserving your strength for the hyperfocus.

Research into the Intense World Theory suggests our brains process information too well. We feel everything. Social interaction is a sensory storm.

We shut our eyes to hear the music.

We look away to see the answer.

This is an adaptive choice. This choice ensures survival. We are not socially stunted. We are socially selective. You avoid the mid conversations to find the peak insights.

Own your silence. Be the person who speaks only when the words are ready. You are the Vibe Economy.

Your presence is a gift, not a right. When you stop performing, you start living.

Be kind, polite, and good. But remember you are the master of your space.

Hit Maxes Evade Taxes.

You do not owe the world a performance.

THE PERSISTENCE OF THE WILL

People call your focus an obsession because they lack the balls to care about anything deeply. They tell you to find balance. Balance is a trap for the mediocre.

Nietzsche spoke of the Ubermensch who creates his own values. Your hyperfocus is your value. You do not need to be well rounded. You need to be a blade. You spend eighteen hours on a single problem because you must. This drive is the engine of human progress. Without us, the world would still be playing with sticks in the dirt.

This persistence is your mighty power. You do not quit when the work gets hard. You quit when the work is finished. Your brain stays in the tunnel until the logic is perfect.

Others get bored. Others get tired. You get stronger. This is the difference between a hobby and a calling. You are called to the depth. This persistence makes you a god of your own craft if it interests you enough to keep you in it.

Your focus is single. Your focus is pure. Studies on autistic traits show we have higher levels of task persistence. We see the project through to the end. We are the finishers. We are the ones who cross the line. We do not stop for comfort. We stop for completion.

Celebrate your intensity. Be the person who cares too much. It’s based.

Be the one who changes things by refusing to play by their rules. Obsession is a holy fire. Let the fire burn. Fuck em and their balance. You are meant for the peak.

Bruh, you are cooked for real for real if you listen to their advice about moderation, no cap.

Skull emoji.

SENSORY DOMINANCE

Too much sensory overload is a problem. But have you ever asked: “what it can be my solution?”

The right amount of sensory sensitivity, correctly channeled, is like having hacks and cheats enabled.

They want to keep your sensitivity permanently dulled with pills. They think your reaction to the world is a terrible disability or a cognitive flaw.

They are wrong.

The only argument for this is a quality of life choice for you to make if overstimulation is beyond manageable. But understand what you’re giving up…

You feel the vibration of the lights because your nervous system is a high performance machine. You hear the hum of the fridge because you are wired for detail. This sensitivity is the foundation of your genius. You are a high fidelity microphone in a world of muffled voices.

When you hyperfocus, you filter the world. You choose the input. This is not a weakness but a strategic advantage. You perceive the flaws in the design before they manifest. You feel the grain of the wood. You hear the change in the engine. This awareness is why you are often the best around at what you freely choose to do.

You are not overwhelmed.

You are precise.

This depth unlocks insight unavailable to the default brain. You feel every part of the music playing and as a result you can create music on a deeper level.

Intense World Theory suggests autistic individuals experience a world which is too bright and too loud. This experience leads to deep learning.

We process more data per second than any neurotypical peer. Our hyperfocus is the scope we use to direct this flow.

Our comfort habits prevent flow leaks and our downtime regenerates it.

We turn the chaos into order. We are the organizers of the void. We see the truth because we feel the truth.

Love your sharp senses. They are your radar. You see the world in high definition. Wear your headphones like armor.

Conserve your focus for what matters. Get immersed in your interest in 8k, then close your eyes and see the galaxy.

You are not fragile. You are a god in training. Be Good to your body. This body is the vessel for your fire. Your sensitivity is the key to higher levels of understanding.

THE PATTERN SEEKER

The world calls your pattern recognition schizophrenia because they are too slow to see the math. You see the connections between history and physics. You see the rhythm in the code. People think you are reaching for ghosts. In reality, you are seeing the build of reality. They live in the shadows on the wall of Plato’s cave. You are the one who walked out into the sun. This vision is a gift from the Esoterica of the mind.

Your hyperfocus is the search for truth. You do not accept the surface answer. You look for the root. This bottom up processing means you build your understanding from the ground up. You are not prone to the biases of the crowd. You follow the evidence. You follow the pattern. This makes you dangerous to the status quo. You are the glitch in their system.

Studies show autistic brains have higher local connectivity. This allows for superior detail processing. We find the needle in the haystack every single time. We see the lie. Our hyperfocus is the light which reveals the truth. We are the investigators of the universe. We see the world as it is, not as they wish it to be.

Trust your eyes. Trust your gut. You see things others miss. You are the secret weapon of any team. Use your vision to build something real.

God Bless your clear sight.

THE RITUAL OF RECOVERY

Autistic Burnout is what happens when you don’t re-up and regen.

Our lives are a cycle of prep, war, death and resurrection every day.

Don’t skip the resurrection.

They tell you your crash is a sign of failure. They say you are inconsistent. Fuck em.

Your hyperfocus is an elite athletic event. You ran a mental marathon for three days. Of course you are tired. You are not lazy. You are recovering. The lion does not hunt every hour. The lion kills and then the lion sleeps. Respect the cycle.

You must embrace the downtime. This is not a weakness. This is the tradeoff.

You trade periods of extreme output for periods of deep rest. This is the only way to sustain the fire. Zen Buddhism teaches us about the void. The void is necessary for the form to exist. Turning the brain off and allowing it to cool in order to effectively overclock it again.

Without adequate self care we burn out hard. This the body and mind crudely attempting to keep us alive.

Without the crash, there is no peak. You are not lying down and rotting. You are reloading.

Autistic burnout is a physiological reality. Our nervous systems require time to reset after the intensity of an overextended stimulation and hyperfocus.

Pushing through leads to damage. Resting leads to growth. Research shows rest is the most productive thing you do after a deep plunge into a topic. You are nurturing the next explosion of genius. You are resting for the next war.

Sleep as long as you need. Stare at the wall. Play your comfort game. You are not a loser. You are a high performance high maintenance machine. You will return.

The fire will come back. Be Good to your soul.

You are worthy of rest.

BANISH your guilt.

Hit Maxes, Evade Taxes.

Ah here, take a break lad.

THE POWER OF NO

A common scenario I found myself in was a lot of people asking me to help with a lot of things at once, and this left me with two options:

  1. Try to help everyone, spread myself thin, get overwhelmed and fuck it up

  2. Say No to people so I could perform my best with fewer tasks, but feel so much guilt from saying No I underperformed anyway

Both options are dogshit.

The real answer is Option 3:

  • Recognise you’re not helping anyone by overextending yourself

  • Recognise your energy is a high performance, fast burning, finite resource that must be managed with shrewd efficiency to best serve yourself and people you care about

  • Be ok with saying No

  • Be ok with asking for help with things

  • Banish your guilt for being mentally healthy and efficient

Persistant Demand Avoidance can often the only thing keeping you from self destruction. I call this Persistent Integrity.

You refuse to do things which make no sense. You refuse to follow orders which are stupid. This is a survival mechanism. Your hyperfocus requires a clear path. You cannot work on the goal while someone screams about bullshit. Your no is a holy shield for your yes.

PDA is the guardian of your attention span. You do not have energy for the mundane. You save your fire for the great work.

This makes us enemy number 1 for middle managers.

This also makes us a hero for our own future.

You are the one who says the emperor has no clothes. You are the one who grinds to finish the masterpiece. You are the one who refuses to be mid.

Research indicates PDA is a profile of autism which prioritizes autonomy. This autonomy is essential for deep focus. Nobody forces us into the tunnel. We must choose the tunnel. Our refusal to comply is the foundation of our creative freedom.

Say no more often. Protect your time like a dragon protects gold. You are not a gowl for choosing yourself. You are a man. Your focus is your kingdom. Rule it with an iron hand.

Be kind, be good, but Fuck em.

You are meant for more than their small lives. Refuse to be pressed out of your wellbeing and literal freedom.

CONCLUSION

You are the specialized mind of the species. Stop trying to be a generalist. Your hyperfocus is not a problem to solve. Your hyperfocus is a power to master.

The world will try to dull your edge.

They will try to make you soft and predictable.

Fuck em. Stay sharp. Stay deep. Your intensity is your glory.

Be kind, be good. God Bless.

Fuck it we ball.

Wired To Resist: Autism, ADHD and PDA

Do you feel like a resistor in a world full of conductors? It feels like everyone else is plugged in,  tuned in, moving with the current. While you’re burning out,  sparking at both ends, trying not to explode from the sheer voltage of existence.

The 8 Unfair Advantages of Autism

Gaining Perspective It doesn’t matter if you have no skills, education, or work experience. What matters is that in the pursuit of these things, we follow the correct path by leaning into our neurotype’s natural strengths, optimising for maximum return on investment, fulfilment and happiness. As I learned the hard way, you do not build a career worth a damn by pretending to be someone else and specialising in things you’re not naturally inclined towards.  You build it by knowing exactly what you are good at, owning it without apology, and then finding the spaces where those skills are not just tolerated but in demand. If you are autistic, this is not optional. It is survival. The first step is stripping away all the noise about what you “should” be good at and looking dead in the eye at what you actually excel at. You see the flaws and the fine print, the thing that will blow up in their face, the thing everyone else misses. The 8 Unfair Advantages of Autism In the pursuit of our i...

Too Autistic to be Normal, Too Normal to be Autistic: Bleeding On The Page

I’ll never be one of them. I’ll never be normal. I can wear the skin of normal, talk normal, walk normal and even… in short bursts… think normal (I assume) but in my bones I will always be who I am. And when I look towards the people who are what I am, I still don’t get the feeling I’m really allowed to feel like one of them.
